Happy New Year!
Can you believe it wasn’t too long ago we were all talking about Y2K? . . . and here we are 10 years later, 2010, or as I’ve come to call it “Twenty Ten.”
My wish is for many continued blessings for each and every one of us, and that we all continue to grow mind, body and soul – developing our minds, increasing our health or most importantly developing or growing an even stronger relationship with God.
As we begin the new year, many of us are keeping with resolutions and embarking upon new journeys. With that said, I am proud to announce Echelon Book Club. The mission of Echelon Book Club is to introduce men and women of all ages to an array of African-American authors and literature, focusing on literacy and providing a forum for interactive discussion about literature and the African-American culture.
Founded by Tavares Carney, an avid reader and recognized book reviewer of African-American literature, Echelon Book Club is based in Southfield, MI. Our members are from diverse backgrounds, sharing commonality in the desire for mental, spiritual and cultural stimulation through literature.
Books nominated as “Book of the Month” selections for the reading group are authored by an African-American writers and fall within the Christian Fiction, Self-Help/Awareness, Inspirational Romance or the Religion/Spirituality book genres. Mainstream literature titles will also be considered. For these selections, the book’s potential for inspiration, motivation, encouragement, or otherwise stimulating discussion or topic(s) affecting the African-American community is considered.
EBC consists of 10 members, some of whom will be welcoming books for review in coming months. Our reviews will be posted at The Pleasing Spoon, Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com, AAKulturezone.com, Motown Writers Network, Shelfari.com and more. We will also be working with many literary partners in coming months, offering our views, insights and opinions on various literary works read by our members.
