Echelon Book Club
Mission: The mission of Echelon Book Club is to introduce men and women of all ages to an array of African-American authors and literature, focusing on literacy and providing a forum for interactive discussion about literature and the African-American culture.
About Us: Founded by Tavares Carney, an avid reader and recognized book reviewer of African-American literature, Echelon Book Club is based in Southfield, MI. Our members are from diverse backgrounds, sharing commonality in the desire for mental, spiritual and cultural stimulation through literature.
Membership: Membership in Echelon Book Club is by invitation, referral by a current member in good-standing, or application, only. Please e-mail echelonbooks@yahoo.com for a membership application.
Book Selection: Book nominations are requested 3 months in advance. All members are given the opportunity to nominate titles and vote for a proposed book of the month (“BOM”). Nominated titles should be authored by an African-American and fall within the Christian Fiction, Self-Help/Awareness, Inspirational Romance or the Religion/Spirituality book genres. Mainstream literature titles will also be considered. For these selections, the nominating member must suggest the book’s potential for inspiration, motivation encouragement, or otherwise, stimulating discussion or topic(s) affecting the African-American community. Our first BOM will be announced December 15, 2009 for the charter BOM in January 2010.
