As a Global Trade Compliance organization, we are committed to driving and pioneering best-in-class trade compliance practices in a dynamic global environment. The Supervisor, GTC Tariff Classification, is responsible for ensuring that AbbVies cross-border transactions are executed in compliance with import/export regulations worldwide. This Supervisor will play a vital role in the leveraging of technology solutions in the tariff classification area that enables import/export compliance and supports cost savings activities globally. The Supervisor, GTC - Tariff Classification will be assigning import and/or export classifications, documenting the rationale for such determinations, and making updates based on revisions to the classification lists. Responsibilities - Accelerate cross-border business by assigning import/export classifications per the Harmonized Tariff Schedule for each relevant market.
- Support the implementation of new technologies (e.g. Agentic AI) that enable a more efficient approach to classification and audit practices.
- Serve as a key liaison, collaborating with Purchasing, Supply Chain, Engineering, and other partners to gather critical data and drive informed tariff decisions.
- Champion documentation excellence by clearly articulating classification logic and securely managing technical and supporting evidence.
- Drive compliance by preparing and reviewing classification requests for government submissions, ensuring accuracy and thoroughness.
- Proactively review classifications and implement updates to reflect the evolving tariffs and regulations.
- Identify and address potential compliance risks, developing solutions that safeguard our global operations.
- Foster a culture of compliance by leading training and monitoring programs, ensuring the highest standards in product classification.
- Provide essential support in determining duty preferences under Free Trade Agreements and Special Trade Programs, contributing to global cost efficiencies.
- Act as a trusted source for trade compliance insights by proactively tracking, interpreting, and communicating regulatory and legislative updates to GTC stakeholdersensuring the organization stays ahead of potential impacts with timely and actionable alerts.
Qualifications
Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., international trade, supply chain, engineering).
- 6+ years of experience working in a brokers agency, multinational company, or consulting firm.
- Extensive experience with harmonized tariff codes with particular focus on the United States and the European Union.
- Proactive, well-organized and able to simultaneously manage multiple time-sensitive tasks, with little or no direct supervision.
- Detail-oriented and possess good research and analytical skills.
- Ability to interpret chemical and clinical terminology, process and classifications.
- Ability to be inquisitive in many fields, from chemistry to biology to machinery.
- Strong planning, analytical, time management, and organizational skills with ability to multitask.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to effectively engage with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
