This position focuses on automation supporting the manufacture and assembly of plastic components and offers the opportunity to shape how next-generation equipment is brought to life on the factory floor.<br><br>This role is ideal for a controls engineer who enjoys thinking beyond “how it’s always been done,” translating innovative ideas into practical, scalable control system solutions. You will be a technical leader—owning complex automation projects from concept through implementation—while collaborating closely with cross-functional partners across engineering, manufacturing, and operations.<br><br>This is an on-site role due to the hands-on nature of the work. We also prioritize flexible scheduling where possible to support work-life balance while delivering projects safely, on time, and with high quality.<h2></h2><h2><span class="emphasis-3">Position</span></h2>Principal Advanced Manufacturing Engineer - Controls<h2></h2><h2><span class="emphasis-3">Location</span></h2>USA, Louisville, KY<p style="text-align:inherit"></p><p style="text-align:inherit"></p><h2><span class="emphasis-3">How You'll Create Possibilities</span></h2><ul><li><p>Lead the specification, design, and implementation of advanced control systems for automated manufacturing equipment, ensuring alignment with internal standards, safety requirements, budgets, and performance goals.</p></li><li><p>Develop end-to-end control system architectures, including hardware and software selection (primarily Rockwell Automation platforms).</p></li><li><p>Create and implement PLC programs, HMI applications, and industrial network configurations.</p></li><li><p>Partner with cross-functional teams to develop and refine manufacturing processes in line with industry best practices.</p></li><li><p>Analyze system performance data and implement improvements to drive efficiency, productivity, and safety.</p></li><li><p>Stay current on emerging automation, robotics, and machine safety technologies and apply them to new and existing systems.</p></li><li><p>Oversee controls implementation through commissioning and launch, ensuring project milestones are met.</p></li><li><p>Troubleshoot and resolve complex controls issues to minimize downtime and improve operational performance.</p></li><li><p>Provide technical leadership and mentorship, fostering innovation and continuous improvement within the engineering organization.</p></li><li><p>Lead machine safety risk assessments and ensure compliance with applicable regulations and standards.</p></li><li><p>Contribute to brainstorming and continuous improvement initiatives that support overall manufacturing success.</p></li></ul><p style="text-align:inherit"></p><p style="text-align:inherit"></p><h2><span class="emphasis-3">What You'll Bring to Our Team</span></h2><p><b><u>REQUIREMENTS</u></b></p><ul><li>Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or related discipline OR equivalent hands-on experience in technical/manufacturing disciplines.  </li><li>7+ years of hands-on & relevant controls engineering experience with automated manufacturing equipment and processes.</li><li>Experience with Rockwell Automation control systems, Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View.</li><li>Knowledge and practice of machine safety (ISO 13849).</li><li>Ability to work in large cross-functional teams and at multiple levels in the organization (both salaried and shop floor operators / skilled trades team members)</li><li>Good communication skills – will be expected to provide program report outs to cross-functional team</li><li>Ability to make decisions and willingness to take ownership of complex projects</li><li>Proficient in MS Office and AutoCAD</li><li>Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey technical information to diverse audiences.</li></ul><p></p><p><b><u>PREFERRED</u></b></p><ul><li>BS/MS degree in Electrical Engineering</li><li>Strong understanding of machine safety standards (e.g., ANSI/RIA R15.06, NFPA 79, ISO 13849) and the ability to apply them to system design.</li><li>TUV Certification in machine safety. </li><li>Experience with plastics automation</li></ul><p></p><p><b><u>WORK ENVIRONMENT</u></b></p><div><ul><li>This position is primarily based in Louisville, KY, but may require travel to other locations as needed.
